Sohn once represented Maher Arar—a Canadian citizen and software engineer detained at a New York airport and later tortured in Syria under a U.S. rendition program for suspected terrorists—in a suit against the federal government. While the litigation was eventually dismissed, Arar secured a $9 million settlement from the Canadian government.
