Joel received his B.S., magna cum laude, from the University of Denver, Daniels College of Business in 2006, where he was a member of the Honors Program. He received his J.D. from Fordham Law School in 2009, where he was an associate editor of the Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law and competed in the Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot Competition.

From 2009 to 2010, prior to joining Mishcon de Reya, Joel was a law clerk to Judge Allan L. Gropper of the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, where he worked on Chapter 11 cases such as Tronox Inc. and Steve & Barry’s. Joel handled matters involving fraudulent conveyance litigation, commercial and contract disputes, plan confirmation, bidding procedures, and Sec. 363 sales.

Joel is admitted to practice in the state of New York, and is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association, and the New York County Lawyers’ Association.

Key Experience

  • Served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Allan L. Gropper of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, where he worked on large Chapter 11 cases such as Steve & Barry’s and Tronox Inc.
  • Represented claimants with securities fraud claims in the Fordham Securities Litigation & Arbitration Clinic.
  • Served as extern to the Honorable Dora L. Irizarry of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
  • Served as extern to the Honorable A. Bruce Campbell of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado.
