Elizabeth has wide-ranging experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial litigation, including pretrial, trial and appellate work. Ms. Rotenberg-Schwartz has represented clients in both federal and state courts and arbitral forums in a variety of general commercial and financial disputes including claims of fraud, breach of contract, and interference with contract. Ms. Rotenberg-Schwartz has also represented individual clients in dealings with the SEC and state regulators, in executive employment disputes, and on a pro bono basis, in extradition proceedings. In addition, she has exercised provisional remedies such as attachment on behalf of corporations that own or operate maritime assets.

Ms. Rotenberg-Schwartz is admitted in New York and New Jersey state courts and the U.S. Districts Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the District of New Jersey.

Ms. Rotenberg-Schwartz is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, and an associate member of the Maritime Association of the Untied States. She served as a member of the Committee on Professional and Judicial Ethics of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York from 2008-2011.

Ms. Rotenberg-Schwartz received her B.A., cum laude, from Barnard College in 1997. She received her J.D., from the Cardozo School of Law in 2003.

Key Experience

Assisted in the representation of a satellite telecommunications company in a breach of contract action, securing a net verdict of $129.9 million from a Maryland federal jury on its behalf.
Assisted in the representation of a former international fund manager in wave of SEC “market timing” prosecutions.
Assisted in the representation of an individual challenging the freezing of his assets by the Office of Foreign Asset Control (“OFAC”).
Assisted in the representation the former Ambassador from Bosnia to the United Nations in connection with his extradition proceedings, which resulted in the landmark decision by the Second Circuit reversing the District Court’s denial of the Ambassador’s petition for writ of habeas corpus and holding that he may not be extradited pursuant to the request that had been made by the Bosnian government.
